Oh, the places you'll go!

Well, I didn't quite manage to finish everything I had intended to this month, but 'almost' is ok with me at the moment! My biggest accomplishment this month is my charm square baby quilt...

Pictured with the Sock Monkey made for Baby H by Mrs. L back home in New Hampshire

I'm really pleased with how this turned out and can't wait to use it when Baby H arrives! The FMQ worked out really well, despite some teething issues at the start, and, while I wondered initially if I should use a different colour thread for the quilting, I think the cream adds the perfect contrast to the various fabrics without being too glaring or conspicuous.

I'm going to call it 'Oh, the places you'll go' after one of my favourite Dr. Seuss books. Not just because the bright colours kind of remind me of the vivid illustrations in all of the Dr. Seuss books, or because the FMQ makes me think of winding roads and journeys with lots of fun detours and digressions. But also because I'm hoping that this little quilt might have some of the same adventures with Baby H that I had with the Raggedy Ann doll my grandmother made for me as a kid. That doll - imaginatively named Baby - went with me everywhere, and quite a few of the photos of me as a child picture me clutching Baby to my side with an iron grasp. I still have her today, much worn, tattered, and loved, and though she no longer has pride of place on my bed and is now packed away in storage, I would never dream of getting rid of her, not least because of all the memories she represents. Maybe in 20 or 30 years, this little quilt will have as many stories to tell as Baby does now!

I didn't get to go to Bee Blessed last weekend, so I'm not quite sure what's happening with the vision in aqua and yellow quilt that I mentioned in my October to-do list. I bet it's well on its way to being finished now though! And, while I had intended to finish two throw pillows for the nursery, I only managed about 97% of the one I pictured here. So, for November, my goals are to finish the already begun throw pillow; make the second one; and finish my EPP baby quilt, or, as I now like to call it, Frankenblanket. That last one might be a bit ambitious, but it's good to challenge oneself, right?!

As with last month, I'm linking with Lily's Quilts' Fresh Sewing Day and Small Blog Meet

The lemon and aqua quilt is coming on beautifully. It was my first attempt at a pieced back and I think the end result will be great. Am in the process of quilting it and then to the binding.
