And it's finished!

Appearances may suggest that I've completely neglected all patchworking during my holiday, but such is not the case. In fact, I finished binding my Double Irish Chains quilt early last week and have been waiting for the perfect conditions in which to take the photos of the finished product, all lovely and crinkly after being washed. Of course, despite the weather here being only gorgeous (as I may have mentioned!), the lighting still hasn't cooperated and, typically, today it started raining! So, that nixed the outside photo options. You get the idea though...

The quilt is now all packed away in its gift bag ready for leaving with the bride and groom on Saturday. Had I been organized enough, I would've snapped a few outside shots of the quilt in all the sunny weather we had this weekend and the early part of this week, but there were loads of things happening that kind of preoccupied me, including a road trip to Saratoga Springs, New York with friends these past couple of days. I've never been to Saratoga Springs before, but it's a lovely little town with the cutest town centre ever! We had a brilliant time wandering up and down the main street, popping in and out of the shops, and generally just having a nosy. Although there was quite a high representation of mainstream retailers, most of the shops were quirky, independent jewelry stores, art galleries, and stationary shops. The best, however, was a tiny yarn store called Common Thread, which not only had an amazing selection of yarn in every colour and texture imaginable but also featured fantastic knitting-covered artwork just outside its front door.

The column as you enter the shop

A bunch of bicycles in front of the store

A closeup of the little baby bike
The amount of knitted and crocheted material on these bikes beggared belief.... it covered literally every inch of bicycle visible to the eye, and probably a lot more that wasn't visible! Crazy! I'm almost tempted to take up knitting again...
