Distraction

I've been MIA for the last little while as we enjoyed Christmas and the New Year in the States. It was a great trip and that little bit more exciting than usual because it was a year of firsts for my baby girl - her first Christmas, her first birthday, and her first snow fall! We had so much fun opening gifts, playing in the snow, and stuffing ourselves silly with birthday cake and holiday foods (though not, sadly, that Christmas pudding I made a while back, but that's a story for another day!)  We've been back to reality since early Monday morning and are all  suffering from some pretty severe and prolonged jet lag. Factor in some truly atrocious weather and the usual January blues, and it's proving pretty difficult to settle back into the normal workaday routine. One bright spot? Getting to send off this first birthday gift...

I waited as long as I could to take these photos, hoping the rain and clouds would lift for a while, but they never really did. So, the photo doesn't do justice to the fabrics, which are wonderfully bright and full of texture... perfect for a curious little boy!

I tried something a little different from my usual label this time around - embroidery! I'd normally include quite a few details on a label - who the quilt is for, what it's called, when it was made, etc. - but, given how little experience I have with embroidery, I decided to keep it simple. I added the little signature just before I sewed down the binding and really like the way it's so subtle. Here's hoping the birthday boy also likes his present!

I'll be back in a while with a roundup of all my fabric-related purchases and gifts from the States.

xx Tina

  1. Here's hoping the January blues melt away soon and that the little man likes his new quilt. I love the idea of embroidering a label. I haven't made any labels for any of my projects yet, but I need to, so this idea seems like a good place to start. I can see little fingers rubbing at the silky thread for years :-)

  3. Lovely baby Quilt T. I find that just in thinking that the evenings are getting slightly longer helps the blues. Di x

  5. Your holiday sounds fabulous. Hope the sun breaks through the clouds and lifts the January blues and the jetlag. It is hard to get back into a new time zone if there is a lack of daylight to help your body adjust.
